SAMBA, July 8: Apni Party provincial president, Jammu, and former Minister, Manjit Singh has expressed anguish over the inability of the authorities in ensuring electricity and drinking water supply in Kandi belt of Vijaypur constituency.
The former Minister highlighted the concerns of the people after a deputation from Kandi area of Vijaypur met him and raised the problems being faced by them.
While talking to them Manjit Singh said that the Kandi belt is worst affected because of non-availability of drinking water that has compelled the people to purchase the portable water.
“The Jal Shakti Department has not been able to frame a policy for the Kandi people to ensure drinking water supply. The people have no other source. Therefore, they hire water tankers for supply of drinking water,” he said.
He said “For decades, the Kandi belt has been neglected by the Jal Shakti Department. The people should have been provided proper tap water supply and tanker services by the concerned Department. But it is a pity that the fate of people did not change for years, ” he added.
He also demanded that the electricity should be supplied round the clock in Kandi areas where the people suffer due to unscheduled long duration power cuts.
“The power cuts also affect the water supply as well as irrigation of the agricultural fields,” he added. He demanded that the Government should come up with a comprehensive policy for the welfare of the Kandi belt as they remained neglected for decades.
He however assured the people that he would highlight their issues before the concerned authorities for the early redressal. He said that the Apni Party is committed to work for the welfare of the people.
“The people are disappointed with the administration and they seek restoration of Statehood as well as holding of Assembly elections in J&K only because their concerns are not being given heed by the administration,” he added.
