Govt issues advisory for releasing water from BHEP

JAMMU, May 10: The Government today released an advisory for releasing the water from Baglihar Hydroelectric Power Plant (BHEP).
The advisory was issued by the Additional district Magistrate (ADM), Ramban.
“Based on information provided by the authorities of the Baglihar Hydroelectric Power Project, it has been brought to our attention of recent increase in the flow of water in river Chenab, the gate at the dam of the BHEP have to be opened which shall cause an increase in the water level of the river on the downstream side,” the advisory said.
“In the light of this situation, the authorities have urged residents living near the riverbanks to exercise extreme caution and stay away from these areas until further notice. The increased river discharge poses a potential risk of flash floods and swift currents, which can be hazardous to life and property,” the advisory added.
