Govt making mockery of democracy in J&K: PCC

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, Dec 29: Congress has blamed the Government of keeping the flood gates open for encouraging defections and open horse trading to defeat the mandate of the people in the DDC elections by not deliberately inserting the anti-defection law and by not announcing the roaster of reservation of DDC chairpersons prior to elections.
Reacting strongly to the open claims and day light attempts by certain political outfits having the backing of the ruling party to indulge in horse trading and poaching of elected DDC members, PCC has termed it a shame on democracy, as no law was inserted to check such defections and winning over of members elected on the mandate of other parties or as independents.
“It is open secret how these defections and whole sale support is managed and the Government is not only mute spectator but a deliberate actor in the matter, as why no Anti- detection provision was inserted  to check such defections of elected persons on party basis.
JKPCC chief spokesperson Ravinder Sharma alleged mockery of democracy and a shame besides cheating the electorate, when such claims are being made by the ruling party and its sister outfits that they had fielded candidates as Independents to deceive the people.
He said the sole purpose of Anti- defection law on each elected bodies in the country is to check the open betrayals and sale of the mandates by the persons after  seeking votes on  party’ ticket or as Independent , as he or she is debarred from joining any political party after winning the election as Independent or other party. However, here the laws are made and amended at the dead of night and election s are announced immediately without taking anyone on board in such matters.
Sharma questioned the system of framing no definite rules or announcing the reservation roaster before the elections, which is unique procedures being adopted contrary to the situation in other states, only to keep confusion for the benefit of the government parties..
He termed it very unfortunate and a fraud on the mandate of the people and the democracy and asked the Government to act immediately to keep the faith of the people in the system.
