AKHNOOR, May 23:  Bayers Group of Companies organized an  awareness camp for the farmers  at Khour  today.
The Agro experts made the farmers aware about the pests and insects responsible for mass decaying on the crops besides taking the precautionary measures to save them from infestation by spraying right and appropriate pesticides and fertilizers.  They also distributed free hybrid seeds to the several farmers for producing good quality crops.
Speaking on the occasion, NPP chairman and former minister Harshdev Singh who was the chief guest said that India’s GDP is mainly dependent on the agricultural economy and nearly 75- 80% population living in the rural areas earn their livelihood from agriculture and allied activities.  It is a sheer tragedy that the farmers in the country are a neglected lot living in a shabby condition who have been facing and succumbing to the burden of the bank debts, wrong policies of the successive Central and State Governments and the primitive methods of cultivation.
He further added that the Government should give preference to empower thje farmemrs socio-economically so that they could live with pride, dignity and honour. He maintained that in the wake of  the increasing population of  the country and improper use of agricultural land the Government should organize several orientation programmes for the farmers with the cooperation of the private Agro companies  emphasizing upon the benefits of the modern irrigation technology based on multi-crop farming, co-operative farming and hybrid crop cultivation etc.
Harshdev said that the seeds which are sown and used by the farmers of the State only constitute 4% of the hybrid seeds and the stress should be given to use modern technology for optimum crop production.  He said that the Government should introduce ‘crop insurance’ for all the farmers at the State expense and distribute hybrid seeds among them for the quality production of the crops.
