Govt must keep check on rates of sand, gravel: Ex-MLC

JAMMU, Oct 5: Former MLC and chief spokesperson of Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress, Ravinder Sharma has said that the poor and common people are hard pressed as the unprecedented high rates of sand, stones and gravel (bajri) is beyond the financial capacity of the common man and urged the Government to solve this burning issue.
Expressing serious concern over the clandestine trade of sand, bajri and stones being made available on very high prices, as a result on one hand common people are in great difficulty for the last more than a year now, while some influential transport operators and officials are making lot of illegal money.
Addressing a meeting of Panchayat representatives and prominent persons at Lamberi in Nowshera – Sunderbani, Sharma said that worst affected are those poor people who are covered under PMAY and have to carry constructions for getting Govt aid. They cannot construct their dwelling units within Govt rates in view of high rates of building materials.
He also criticized the delay in the disbursement of compensation to the land owners and farmers whose lands are taken over forcibly without compensation. He appealed to the Lt Governor Manoj Sinha to ensure that the compensation to farmers and land owners whose lands have been acquired for widening of highway between Sunderbani- Siot – Lamberi – Nowshera- Rajouri, is paid as per prevalent market rates.
The meeting was organized by Sarpanch Lamberi Kishori Dutt Sudan and attended by large number of prominent persons of the locality including Ramjidass Sharma, Gandharv Singh, Bhagat Ram, Dr Naresh Jagan Nath, Dheeraj Sharma, Bashir Ahmed and several others.
The speakers criticized the economic policies of the Modi Government as a result there is large scale unemployment and people are facing great hardships. They charged BJP of making bluff with Refugees and DP of 1947, 1965 and 1971 who were promised 30 lakhs per family by the BJP but sanctioned only 5.5 lakhs which is betrayal.
