JAMMU, Dec 1: Jammu Kashmir Sharnarthi Action Committee (JKSAC) in its core group meeting held here today urged upon the State Government to prepare a road map to settle the issue of displaced persons from PoK/ refugees once for all.
During meeting at Jammu, the members lauded the efforts of Coalition Govt for getting released Rs 2000 crore package for DP’s of 1947 from PoK and other categories which was awaited since November last year. The members in the meeting urged upon the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti to prepare a roadmap to resolve the issue taking into account the recommendation of JPC, as assured in the meeting held with her on November 19, 2016.
While addressing the meeting Gurdev Singh, president along with Netar Parkash thanked PM Narendra Modi for releasing the package. Mr Singh further reiterated that it is not enough but just a peanut as compared to their loss of lives / properties and sufferings they have gone through in last 70 years. He said that DP’s are still confused that despite of several representations and meetings with State and Central Govt high ups, the shape and nature of the package has not been clarified yet. The most important component of the package of reservation for the wards of DP’s recommended by Omar Abdullah Govt as well as by JPC is missing.
He regretted how the Govt has identified only 26,319 families to be benefitted under this package. The figure of 26,319 DP families of POK have been taken from the previous package submitted by Omar Abdullah Govt to Central Govt on 20-10-2014 and was returned by MHA on 7-11-2014 raising the query to justify that how the bonafide 5,300 families out of 31,619 families of DP’s who have also availed the benefit of ex-gratia grant provided by GOI in 1962 and other benefits have been left out of the package.
SAC leader further expressed his serious concern regarding the mischief being played by Administration with DP’s, asking them to give a declaration “that this is the last / final one time settlement package and no relief shall be claimed by me or my family from the State or Central Govt.” He urged upon the Govt to take up the issue seriously and prepare a comprehensive road map taking into account all the components.
Master Yograj, Mukesh Sharma, Harbans Singh, Rajesh Khajuria, Dwarka Nath, Balbir Singh and Madan Sharma also spoke on the occasion.
