Govt must rehabilitate Nai Basti shopkeepers: BSP

JAMMU, July 20: Bahujan Samaj Party J&K Unit has said that LG led JKUT Government must rehabilitate the displaced shopkeepers of Nai Basti, Satwari area of Jammu city.
In a press statement a BSP spokesman said that notice has been issued by the government to shopkeepers of Nai Basti area of Jammu. But it is the government’s responsibility to provide shops at some other location to those shopkeepers whose shops have been issued notices for demolition.
Party president for J&K Darshan Rana said that some political parties are busy making political gains on this issue, while they need to rise above politics and talk about the rights of these shopkeepers who are displaced. Whose bread and butter is being snatched. He said that his party is not against development, but the government needs to consider whether development should be done by displacing someone.
He said that notices have been issued to shopkeepers by the Jammu and Kashmir administration, and it is the government’s responsibility to provide space for shops to those shopkeepers. He said that Bahujan Samaj Party is fully standing with these shopkeepers and wherever they need their party will be find standing with them.
Rana said that on one hand unemployment is increasing continuously in Jammu Kashmir and on the other hand, LG administration is busy harassing people in the name of development. He said that after the notice was issued to the shopkeepers, there is an atmosphere of fear among them and the government first needs to make a plan for their rehabilitation because the government’s decision is based on their employment.
