‘Implement Minimum Wages Act in J&K’

UDHAMPUR, Apr 2: Senior Trade Union activist and Jal Shakti (PHE) Employees and Workers Association leader Som Nath today said that J&K UT Government must release the pending wages of the Daily Rated Workers (DRWs) of the PHE Department and implement Minimum Wages Act like Ladakh UT in the Jammu and Kashmir.
Addressing workers during a monthly meeting of executive body at PHE Complex Udhampur today Som Nath District president Jal Shakti (PHE) Employees & Workers Association and senior Trade Union leader of Jammu Province said the Govt must release the pending wages and implement the Minimum Wages Act in the JKUT.
Som Nath said both the demands of the daily wagers should be discussed in the Assembly Session with effect from April 7, without any delay otherwise, the daily wagers will resume the agitation. “I hope the Govt. will solve the burning issues of the daily wagers. The concerned Minister of the Jal Shakti Department Javed Rana addressed the media and assured to solve the genuine issues of the daily wagers as soon as possible.
During the meeting the long pending issue of regularization of daily wagers/ CP/ITI/Land case workers were discussed in detail. It was stressed upon the Government to clear all the workers who have completed 7 years of service. The issue with regard to the release of wages of workers of the last 65-70 months also came under discussion.
The workers in one voice strongly demanded implementation of Minimum Wages Act in the J&K UT without any more delay. Moreover, the acute shortage of staff be removed in all the water stations, field and the PHE offices. It was also demanded that DA @ 2% should be released immediately in favour of JKUT employee as Central Government has already released the same.
Som Nath hoped that Govt will fulfill the genuine demands of the daily wagers. Senior members including – Vijay Kumar Sharma, Suraj Parkash, Dinesh Kesar, Sham Singh, Karan Singh, Rattan Lal, Mohan Singh, Janeet Ali, Puran Chand, Shanker Dass and others also spoke on the occasion.
