Govt neglecting Floriculture Sector: Growers

JAMMU, June 3: Flower Growers Association has expressed concern over the neglect of floriculture sector by the State Government despite the fact that this sector can create million dollars and billon jobs for J&K State.
In a statement, issued here today Association president Tejinder Singh said the State Government has failed to announce anything for helping the flower growers which could provide employment to thousands of people.
He said that flower growers had expected that new Government will take some drastic measures to encourage the flower growers but nothing much has been announced for them. Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has only given a slogan of prosperity through Commercial Floriculture by organizing flower festivals.
He said any development in any other sector is welcomed but floriculture needs a strategic road map, Commercial Floriculture policy and accountability from officials concerned with this department.
“Singh appealed Secretary Tourism, Floriculture, Gardens & Parks, Farooq A. Shah to take up the issues with Government. Enhance the commercial floriculture share in Centrally Sponsored Schemes for 2016 -17 the budget for commercial floriculture is less than 0.1 percent that is 50 -50 lakh for each directorates. How with this budget Govt can tap the potential of 1000 Crore industry, he added.
