JAMMU, Aug 11: Senior AAP leader and DDC Member Suchetgarh, Taranjit Singh Tony raised serious concern over the extensive damage caused due to flash floods and incessant rains in Chatha near here.
During his visit to Azad Nagar, Tony condemned lethargic approach of LG Administration in mitigating problems of the people living on bank of the Nallah.
He said that government has failed to remove encroachment along the Nallah resulting in Nallah overflowing and filthy water entering residential areas.
The AAP leader claimed that the concerned government functionaries least bothered to visit flood-affected areas of Azad Nagar, Gadigarh, Landoi Nallah etc. He also claimed that water bodies in rural areas have been encroached by mafia and the government is sleeping over the matter leaving the hapless people on the mercy of God.
Tony demanded strictest action against the land and water body mafia and steps to vacate the encroached water bodies and land chunks to pave way for the rain water so that flooding should not happen in the low lying areas and residential houses.
