JAMMU, Apr 14: Congress Legislature Party leader, Rigzin Jora accused the Modi Government at the Centre and Mufti Government in the State for their failure to provide relief and succor to the flood victims of the State.
“Almost seven months are over, the flood victims have been left high and dry. Modi Government has been talking of good governance and development. Is this his model of good governance that despite a lapse many months , the flood victims are yet to receive relief ?” Mr Jora said in a press statement.
The Congress leader pointed out that something which should have been a routine matter has been rendered so difficult by the Modi Government. It was the Centre’s responsibility to ensure timely relief to the flood victims, Mr Jora maintained.
He said Mufti Government has been there for almost 45 days.
Their promise of relief distribution within 45 days has fallen flat. The Cabinet Sub Committee that was constituted to monitor relief distribution, as reported had only one meeting in SKICC. This reflects the callous attitude of this Government towards the flood victims, Mr Jora added.
One of the reasons that was also a critical factor in the PDP -BJP tie up was the huge funding that was expected to flow for rehabilitation and reconstruction . It was expected that with this tie -up funds would not be any more constraint. Except for the World Bank commitment of Rs 1500 crores nothing substantial has been released by Centre.
Both the Chief Minister and the Finance Minister have paid their customary obeisance to the Prime Minister and the Union Finance Minister, but things don’t seem to be moving on the flood relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction front. This government seems to be more focussed on entangling itself into controversies rather than delivery. First , it was Masrat Alam and now, it is re-settlement of Kashmiri Pandits.
Mr Jora asked the Chief Minister to make the flood victims and their relief and rehabilitation his first priority. This should be followed by well -thought out plan for reconstruction of the lost infrastructure . As opposition party, the Congress would be too happy to contribute in anyway the Government wishes, Mr Jora said.
