JAMMU, Feb 26: In its pursuit to provide affordable, quality & safe drugs, devices and implants to the general public, Government has successfully established three more AMRIT outlets in its Tertiary Care Health Institutions viz. GMC Kathua, GMC Doda and GMC Rajouri.
The stores are aimed at providing all categories of medical products (Branded, Branded-Generic and Generic) under one roof at most competitive prices.
Initially, The Government of Jammu & Kashmir had decided to open 16 outlets in the Union Territory out of which 12 outlets have now become operational and remaining four outlets shall be made functional within three months. These outlets have provided service to 32,387 patients and the rebate extended to the patients has been valued to the tune of Rs 1,90,59,966. The MRP value of medical products dispensed so far is estimated at Rs 3,95,17,701.
Drawing satisfaction from the performance of AMRIT stores, the Government contemplates to extend this initiative to 14 more outlets proposed to be located in secondary care health institutions across the borders of Union Territory. The five stores in phase-II shall be made functional within three months. The AMRIT stores are being operated under the aegis of Union Ministry of Health & Family Welfare.
Atal Dulloo, Financial Commissioner, Health & Medical Education Department, J&K has emphasized that the AMRIT stores display the inventory of all products particularly used for critical care especially of High Value Medical Products so that the out-of-pocket expenses on sale of medicines can be reduced significantly and the initiative of allowing opening of theses outlets within the premises of public sector health institutions gets vindicated.
