Govt orders Fire Safety Audit across J&K

Srinagar, May 21: After several fire incidents in which many Government buildings were gutted, the administration today ordered a Fire Safety Audit of all the Government buildings across J&K.
In this regard, an order has been issued by the General Administration Department (GAD), which stated that the audit across the Union Territory will be carried out immediately while the concerned have been directed to necessary measures with regard to the audit reports.
“Director-General, Fire and Emergency Services shall carry out a fire safety audit of all Government buildings in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir immediately,” the order issued here stated.
It added that all the concerned Administrative Secretaries “shall take immediate corrective action in light of the Fire Safety Audit Reports so furnished to them for preventing the occurrence of fire incidents in all buildings of their Departments.”
Pertinent to mention here that the Government buildings that were gutted in several fire incidents had no fire safety mechanism in place while several departments have not so far complied with the recommendations made in the Fire Safety Audit Reports furnished by the Fire and Emergency Services, prompting the Government to issue directives in this regard.
