Govt orders shifting of all pediatric services from GB Panth Hospital to Bemina

Process to be completed in next few days: Officials

Srinagar, Sept 16: The much-awaited move of the Government for the improved pediatric healthcare services in Kashmir has been finally initiated with the Health & Medical Education Department today ordering the shifting of entire pediatric services of Children Hospital, Sonwar to Bemina.
At Bemina, the newly constructed 500 Bedded Children Hospital is now going to offer all the pediatric services while the hospital was already made functional and a few of the services were already being provided to the patients reaching there from various parts of Kashmir.
In this connection, the authorities have directed the Principal, GMC Srinagar to assess the proper functioning of all vital aspects at the newly constructed hospital and initiate the process of shifting, however, some of the services will continue at GB Pant Hospital, Sonwar.
For the continuation of some of the services, the H&ME has accorded sanction to the facilities of specialties like Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, and Surgical Services along with dispensaries, and commercial services to continue at GB Pant Hospital Srinagar, which the Government said, is as per the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
With the shifting of pediatric services to Bemina, the H&ME also directed the shifting of Chest Diseases Hospital Srinagar to the GB Pant Hospital Srinagar, the process which will be carried out by the Principal, Government Medical College, Srinagar.
In this regard, Administrative Secretary, H&ME, Bhupinder Kumar has directed the Principal Government Medical College Srinagar to share a detailed proposal delineating a holistic action plan.
Officials at the Chest Diseases Hospital told Excelsior that as of now the Principal has been directed to submit the action plan and that the entire shifting is going to happen only after that. “Even as of now, we are ready to shift, but let’s see how it plays out after the detailed action plan is submitted for approval,” the officials said.
At the same time, the H&ME has also ordered the procurement of machinery and equipment such as MRI, other Pediatric Equipment, etc, which have been originally approved for GB Pant Hospital Srinagar, and the installation of the same at newly constructed Children Hospital Bemina by Managing Director, J&K Medical Supply Corporation Limited. Interestingly, the concerned have been directed to utilize the CT scan machine available at Makeshift DRDO, Hospital Srinagar for Paediatric Services at 500 Bedded Children Hospital Bemina Srinagar.
Officials told Excelsior that the shifting of the pediatric services was already and most of it has already been put in place at Bemina. “While the process was already on, we are expecting to complete the entire process within next 4 days,” Medical Superintendent of Paediatric Hospital, Dr. Nazir Chowdhary told Excelsior
