Govt to organise exhibition for artisans from minority communities at IITF

NEW DELHI, Oct 18:  Union Minority Affairs Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi today said his ministry will organise an exhibition for artisans from the minority communities in which they will display their traditional arts and skills at the India International Trade Fair (IITF) here.
Mr Naqvi said in a statement that the Narendra Modi government had been taking a major step to provide opportunity and market to India’s traditional arts and crafts at international level.
“This will provide an excellent platform to thousands of artisans belonging to minority communities from across the nation to display their arts and skills before the domestic and international visitors,” he said.
He informed that his ministry was going to organise an exhibition of handicrafts, embroidery and others made by artisans from minority communities at the India International Trade Fair from November 14 to 27 at Pragati Maidan.
The exhibition “Hunar Haat” (Skill Hands), would be an amazing gathering of artisans from every corner of the country and for the first time, these talented artisans/craftsmen were being provided an opportunity to showcase their skills at national-international level under one roof.
He added that the exhibition would include products made of cane and bamboo in North Eastern states,  chikan work, brass artifacts, jardoji clothes work of Uttar Pradesh, collection of pottery work of southern states, sandalwood and other wooden items, handicrafts from Bihar-Jharkhand, indigenous goods for domestic use from Bengal-Odisha and herbal products made.
Besides, articraft like marble work from Rajasthan, Gujarat,  Pashmina and bronze work from Kashmir, ayurvedic, unani health care, glass items, Indian silk-cotton work would also be a part of the exhibition.
Mr Naqvi said one of the special features of this unique ‘Hunar Haat’ was that besides providing free of cost stall to artisans, his ministry would also make arrangements for their transport and help in their daily expenses, so that they could reach Delhi and display their skills at the fair.
The Minister said he has written to all Chief Ministers, requesting them to direct the departments concerned of their respective states to make aware the artisans about this exhibition and encourage them to send their applications to the National Minority Development & Finance Corporation (NMDFC) by October 25.
NMDFC, on behalf of the Ministry of Minority Affairs, would be participating in the IITF under the banner of USTTAD (Upgrading the Skills and Training in Traditional Arts Crafts for Development) scheme.  (UNI)
