JAMMU, Aug 21: The Government has retrieved nearly 2500 kanals of land of Kashmiri Pandit migrants which had either been encroached or was part of distress sale in the Kashmir valley while the migrant employees will get 1100 more houses in October this year.
A law was enacted in 1997 by the then Government to protect property of the migrants from encroachment and distress sale in the Kashmir valley. However, the successive Governments hardly took any initiative to protect the migrant property or retrieve the encroached land.
Official sources told the Excelsior that present dispensation headed by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha launched a portal in which the Kashmiri migrants sitting in any part of Jammu and Kashmir, country or even abroad can lodge their complaints.
The Government received 8000 complaints and have disposed of 6000 so far.
It has also retrieved nearly 2500 kanals land of the Kashmiri Pandit migrants which had either been encroached or was part of distress sale. This is quite significant going by the fact that never in the past such an initiative was taken, the sources said.
They added that out of 6000 Government jobs announced by the Government for Kashmiri migrants, all posts excepting 400 have been filled up.
Similarly, out of 6000 houses, 1000 have been allotted while 1100 more will be given in October this year. For rest of the houses and flats; land has been identified and tendering process done. These houses are likely to be completed in about one and half year.
The Governments of India and Jammu and Kashmir are committed to rehabilitation of Kashmiri Pandit migrants.
It may be mentioned here that after their migration from the Kashmir valley, land and property of some of them was encroached upon which they left behind during migration while few others had indulged in distress sale of their property.
Notwithstanding enactment of law in 1997 by the then Government, no major initiative was taken to retrieve encroached land of the migrants. However, the present Government has so far retrieved nearly 2500 kanals of land, the sources said.
Following killing of some Kashmiri Pandit migrant employees in the Kashmir valley, the Government has already ordered that they will be deployed at district, tehsil or sub divisional headquarters under secure accommodation.
As far as disposal of complaints of Kashmiri migrants was concerned, sources said they can lodge their complaints on the portal whether they are sitting in Jammu, New Delhi or even abroad.
“The Government received a total of 8000 complaints from the migrants on the portal so far and, significantly, 6000 of them have been addressed while rest are being studied by the Government officials.
Shortly, a decision will also be taken on rest of 2000 complaints, the sources said.
Sources said the Government of India and Jammu and Kashmir Government have regularly been reviewing the welfare measures for Kashmiri Pandit migrants and whatever required for their welfare will be done.
