SRINAGAR :The State Government today sanctioned the revision of compensation payable to victims or their dependents under the State Victim Compensation Scheme.
The decision was taken at a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, a Government spokesman said.
“Revised compensation under the scheme for loss of life would now be Rs two lakh for death, Rs three lakh for torture in police custody, Rs two lakh for loss of any limb or part of body resulting to 80 per cent disability, Rs 1.5 lakh for loss of limb or part of body resulting to 40 per cent and below 80 per cent disability,” the spokesman said.
“Similarly, a victim of rape in case of minor or rape in police custody shall now be paid Rs three lakh, Rs two lakh for rape, Rs three lakh for acid attack victims who suffer complete damage or burns and those who suffer partial damages and burns shall be paid Rs two lakh, besides Rs one lakh will be paid for injury caused due to severe mental agony to women and child victims in cases like human trafficking,” he said.
The cabinet also accorded approval to the grant of relief of upto Rs two lakh or 50 per cent of the loss, whichever is less, as assessed by the Tehsildar of the area where losses or damage to the immovable properties are caused in law and order situation or riots.
The relief in such circumstances shall be sanctioned by the Deputy Commissioner concerned, he said.
The spokesman said the cabinet also sanctioned Rs 5 crore to the Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation Department.
“The funds are meant for providing ex-gratia relief to victims of riots and other extraordinary disturbances for destruction or damage to immovable property,” he added. (AGENCIES)
