Govt rules out 3rd party mediation

NEW DELHI, Aug 7:
The Government today asserted that there was absolutely no scope for a third party role or mediation in the northern most State of the country as Parliament was rocked by the killings of five Indian soldiers on the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir,
In a written reply to a question regarding Pakistan’s requests to raise the J&K issue with countries like the United Kingdom and the US, Minister of State for External Affairs Preneet Kaur said in the Lok Sabha that under the Simla agreement, India and Pakistan had committed to address all issues including JK ‘peacefully through bilateral dialogue’.
On Pakistan’s effort to raise J&K issue before the international fora during the past three years, the Minister said the neighbouring country was continuing its hostile propaganda unabated and repeatedly raising the issues in fora like United Nations.
India’s position was that J&K is an integral part of the Union and part of the State — Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) was under illegal occupation of Pakistan, Ms Kaur said.
India will take all necessary steps to protect its sovereignty and territorial integrity, the Minister asserted.
Regarding the incidents of incursions by Chinese Army in Ladakh region of J&K, the Minister replied that there was no common delineated Line of Actual Control (LAC).
Due to different perception of the LAC, situations had arisen on the ground. If the country were to have common perception of the LAC, such a situation would not take place, she said.
The issue was regularly taken up with the Chinese side through established mechanisms including border personnel meetings, flag meetings and meetings of working mechanism for consultation and coordination on border affairs and diplomatic channels, she said. (UNI)
