REASI, Nov 30: In order to honour the supreme sacrifice offered by the valiant Special Police Officer (SPO) while fighting against terrorists, Government Primary School Lower Mendi has been named after Martyr SPO Abdul Rashid.
In a simple and impressive ceremony, SSP Reasi, Shailender Singh visited remote hill top village Mendi and dedicated the school to the name of the martyr. The SSP also instituted a photograph of martyr Abdul Rashid in the school.
SPO Abdul Rashid was born to late Abdul Rehman and Fatima Begum in far flung village Mendi of Chassana area on 02-03-1979. He got his primary education from Government Primary School Lower Mendi Chassana and Govt High School Balmatkote.
He joined J&K Police during the period of peak militancy in Mahore-Chassana area on 05-04-2001. He attained martyrdom while fighting against terrorists in an encounter in Channakote Mahore on 26/27-12-2001 while eliminating the two dreaded militants.
Fatima Begum, mother of the martyr was also present on the occasion despite her old age and weakness. She blessed the officers with her prayers for this initiative while remembering the martyr with wet eyes.
Speaking on the occasion, SSP said that the nation & J&K Police are indebted to the supreme sacrifice made by the martyr in the line of duty and upholding the national flag high.
Police donated Black boards, stationary items and distributed sweets among the students of the school in the name of martyr, presently being run in a private building.
Faiz ul Haseeb, SDM Mahore, while speaking about the sacrifice of the martyr, assured that road to the school will be black topped on priority.
CEO Reasi Mohd Aziz assured that the school shall be upgraded with full facilities including infrastructure and staff.
ACR Reasi Sanjay Badyal, SDPO Mahore Chabail Singh, Tehsildar Mahore Shahid Iqbal, ZEO Chassana and SHO Chassana were also present on the occasion.
