Govt sets up committee for smooth regulation of traffic

JAMMU, Dec 11:  Minister of State for H&UDD & Home, Nasir Aslam Wani, has issued directions for immediate corrective civil works for effective management of traffic signal lights in the winter capital.
The Minister issued these instructions in a high-level meeting attended by Commissioner/ Secretary, H&UDD, Jeet Lal Gupta, IGP Traffic, Munir Khan, DIG Traffic, Jammu, Shakeel Beg, Chief Engineer, R&B, Jammu, Tehseen Mustafa, Deputy Commissioner, Jammu,  Sanjeev Verma and Commissioner JMC,  Kuldeep Khajuria.
In order to streamline traffic and avoid unnecessary choking, the Minister constituted a Committee comprising of Commissioner SMC, DIG Traffic, Jammu, DC Jammu & SEs of R&B and PDD that will coordinate to remove impediments in smooth regulation of traffic.
The Minister was informed that R&B Department will start road marking and installation of road signals in Jammu city from next week. Fluorescent thermal plates will be used to increase longevity of the road markings. Zebra crossing bands at several places will also be made functional so that pedestrian movement is facilitated.
Mr. Nasir Aslam asked Chief Engineer R&B to identify the possibility of widening roads at congested points across the city and along the rotaries as it will help in easing traffic pressure at these junctions.
While calling for relocation of traffic signal lights at several places across the city, the Minister issued directions for installation of traffic signals at Greater Kailash and Sainik colony, keeping in view the huge vehicular traffic rush at these two locations.
