“The Government should break its silence over this major issue concerning Kashmiri Pandits who are leading an exiled life in Jammu and different parts of country for last 35 years now”, GKPD international coordinator, Utpal Koul and its coordinator Delhi -NCR, Kashi Akhoon told reporters here, today along with Vikas Raina its Jammu coordinator, Bushan Jalali, president Rainawari Kashmiri Pandit Action Committee and Yoginder Koul retired IGP.
They said the successive Governments made high claims over the rehabilitation of KPs in Valley but no exercise was done on ground. They demanded that displaced Pandits be settled at one place in the Valley which should be in a form of Smart City where they can live with peace and dignity. “The Government of India should talk to the community leadership in this regard”, they added.
Highlighting other issues the GKPD leaders demanded that the community be given representation in Parliament and Assembly by reserving two and five seats for it in two houses respectively.
Maintaining that the enrolment of electoral rolls has taken place they demanded that the community voters be enrolled all over the country so that they can cast their vote in the elections. The GKPD leaders also appealed community members to get themselves registered as voters and take active part in democratic process this time. They alleged that earlier a ploy was made to debar the KPs from casting their vote by making election process for them very cumbersome.
They alleged that the Habba Kadal Assembly seat in Srinagar Kashmir which had a majority of KP voters was divided during delimitation process by previous Governments so that the KP votes don’t get consolidated.
Giving a clean chit to former Governor, Jagmohan, Utpal Koul warned those politicians who drag his name and hold him responsible for mass exodus of KPs. He said the KPs are victims of genocide for which certain forces within Valley and Pakistan were responsible and not Jagmohan. They warned that in case these politicians don’t refrain from dragging the former Governor’s name they will drag them to court of law.
Kashi Akhoon, while highlighting the problems of the Pandits demanded security and accommodation to PM package employees besides announcement of remaining posts under 15000 job package announced under PM package in 2008.
He also demanded hike in relief, declaration of distress sale as null and void, removal of encroachments from temples and shrines land, enhancement of relief to Rs 25,000 per month per family, compensation to over aged youth, benefits of Ayushman Bharat Card to migrants putting up outside Jammu and issuing of voter cards to Pandits. The GKPD leaders gave all kudos to Modi Government in breaking the back of terrorists and separatists saying that there is a discernable change in ground situation in Kashmir now.
