Govt should control fee hike in pvt schools

NEW DELHI: The issue of arbitrary tuition fee hike in private schools rocked the Rajya Sabha on Friday with the Elders demanding the Government to control it.
Raising the issue, BJP lawmaker Shwet Mallik and Surendra Singh Nagar of Samajwadi Party said the private schools were arbitrarily hiking tuition fee and forcing parents to buy books, uniforms and other accessories from a particular shop at exorbitant prices.
“The Government must intervene to stop the high handedness of these schools”, Mr Mallik said.
Most of the parents are not able to have their own houses owing to high expenditure incurred on their children’s education, he added.
The Samajwadi Member Nagar urged the Government to bring in a legislation to stop the arbitrary approach of the private schools.
“The private schools in Noida have increased tuition fee up to 150 per cent. The Uttar Pradesh Government has enacted a law to stop the arbitrary increase of tuition fee and other fees but it is not being implemented effectively”, Mr Nagar said.
