JAMMU, Dec 28: Government SRML Higher Secondary School organised the second award distribution function of Tara Chand Magotra Memorial Awards, here today.
The Function was held under the overall supervision of Shaqat Chib, Principal of the School.
The function was attended by the school faculty, students, the family members of Tara Chand Magotra, besides CA R K Gupta and CA Vinay Saraf, closely linked to the family.
Tara Chand Magotra Awards for Academic Excellence were instituted in School from 2016 by Vinod Kumar Magotra, the eldest son of Late Tara Chand Magotra with corpus of Rs 5 lakh on December 26, 2016 to service the awards every year to the toppers of Class X and Class XII.
Surya Pratap Singh, son of Thakur Harminder Singh (who had topped in class XII and had secured second position in the Board) and Sunil Kumar, son of Ram Singh (who had topped in Class X) were given the awards by Satya Devi, wife of Tara Chand Magotra.
Principal Shafqat Chib recounted Tara Chand Magotra’s quest and admiration for academic excellence.
Late Tara Chand Magotra’s wife, Satya Devi, despite being illiterate, excelled in ensuring quality education of their three sons Vinod, Ravi and Virender. All of them had been selected for Kashmir Administrative Service. The award ceremony was conducted by Vijaya Thakur.
Vinod recalled his old days in the school from where he passed Higher Secondary 50 years back, when he had stood first in the school and second in the Jammu and Kashmir Board.
He said that the road of path to success is continuous pursuit for excellence, hard work, persistence and prayer to the Almighty.
Surya Pratap Singh shared his thoughts for the youngsters and said that hard work combined with smart work is key to success.
The program concluded with songs in Dogri sung by Vijaya Thakur and duet by Vijaya Thakur and Surya Pratap Singh.
Magotra family expressed the gratitude to the school management and to the Principal in particular for organizing the event.
