Govt steps in to end Khrew truckers’ tussle

Srinagar, Mar 31: The Government today finally stepped in to end the ongoing tussle between two truck unions of Khrew in south Kashmir and decided to take strict action against ‘miscreants who would attempt to prevent truckers’ from ferrying cement’.
“Any unscrupulous element trying to violate the atmosphere and prevent the constituted body to exercise their mandate shall be booked under the relevant provisions of law including the provisions of Regulation of Essential Commodities Act,” an official statement said here today.
The government has also decided to issue coupons to the truckers for ferrying cement from the factories and not to allow union interference it. The decision was taken in a meeting at Awantipora in which Deputy Commissioner Pulwama, Niraj Kumar, Deputy Inspector General of Police, SSP Awantipora, ADC Pulwama, RTO Kashmir, ARTO Pulwama and the representatives of truck unions were present.
“ARTO Pulwama and Naib Tehsildar Khrew shall prepare and issue coupons to the truckers for the purpose and no Union shall be involved in it,” the government said. As per the decision, Tehsildar Pampore, ARTO Pulwama, Executive Officer MC, Khrew and Naib Tehsildar Khrew shall regulate the business of all trucks on the basis of rotation.
The truckers of Halqa Nagandar under the banner of Al Khuddam Truck Union have been at loggerheads with the Zaffron Truck union of Khrew over ferrying cement from the local industries factories for over two months now.
