Govt to bear coaching expenses of IAS aspirants

SRINAGAR, Sept 13: Buoyed by the success of students from the State cracking the prestigious all-India civil services exams, Jammu and Kashmir Government has decided to bear the expenses of coaching of those who have cleared the preliminary stage of the exams.

The Government will bear the expense for further coaching outside Jammu and Kashmir.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today asked the Institute of Management, Public Administration and Rural Development (IMPARD) to sponsor all the students from the State, who qualify preliminary examination of Indian Administrative Services (IAS), for further coaching outside the State.

“You should support all the successful candidates of preliminary examination of IAS and help them receive further necessary training, if they are willing, in the reputed and recognised institutes outside the State so that they prepare in a better way to qualify the final examination,” Omar said at the 12th Executive Council meeting of IMPARD here.

Shah Faesal, a Kashmiri doctor, had topped the 2009 civil services exams, while in 2012 ten students from the State had made it to the prestigious league.

Omar said the youth from J&K”are second to none” in talent and can prove their mettle at national and international stages if provided opportunity and appropriate guidance.

In a detailed presentation, Director General IMPARD BB Vyas briefed the chief minister about the functioning of the Institute and referred to new initiatives taken to upgrade and improve its performance.

Vyas said as many as 250 annual programmes are being conducted in the Institute which include foundation training for Kashmir Administrative Service (KAS) qualifiers, capacity building for Panchayat members and refresher courses for in service officers.

He said IMPARD is currently providing training to 80 KAS aspirants at its Srinagar centre and an equal number of aspirants at Jammu centre.

Vyas said facilities like website, computerisation and digitalisation of library, video conferencing, infrastructure development, ATM facility and biometric attendance are being put in place in the two centres of IMPARD.

He said 14 new posts have been notified to strengthen the faculty of the Institute. (AGENCIES)
