Govt to check harassment of JK students outside State, Liaison Officer appointed

JAMMU, Apr 3: With a view to check harassment of students of Jammu and Kashmir in other States, the State Goverment today designated Principal Resident Commissioner (PRC), J&K, New Delhi, as Liaison Officer.
Stating this here today, Minister of State for Home Sajjad Ahmad Kichloo said that Principal Resident Commissioner will intimate any incident of alleged harassment to the students of Jammu and Kashmir studying in other States. He said that the PRC will coordinate with all the concerned agencies and departments of the concerned State Governments with a view to ensuring safety and security of the students pursuing their studies in other States.
Mr Kichloo said that a dedicated helpline with numbers – 011-24611108 and 011-24611210 has been kept available on 24×7 basis in the office of PRC New Delhi for reporting any incident of harassment to the students.
“It has been a cause of concern to the parents of the students studying in other parts of the country since long, ” the Minister said, adding the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has issued specific directions to provide relief to the students and their parents after which the present mechanism was devised.
Mr. Kichloo urged the parents to immediately contact the Liaison Officer on the above mentioned contact numbers in case of any emergency.
