Govt to construct only underground parking lot in Gandhi Nagar: Jora

SRINAGAR, Oct 14: Minister for Urban Development and Urban Local Bodies, Nawang Rigzin Jora has dispelled all apprehensions that a shopping complex will be constructed through ERA in Gandhi Nagar.
Reacting to media reports, Mr. Jora said that Government plans to construct an underground parking place not commercial complex in the posh Gandhi Nagar in Jammu city through ERA to overcome shortage of parking space in Gandhi Nagar area, as there is no such facility presently there. On completion of this underground three storied parking place about 600 vehicles could be accommodated at a time, Mr. Jora added.
The Minister said that the Department of Urban Development and ULB is fully seized of the concerns of the inhabitants of Gandhi Nagar and adjoining localities, adding that the original plan of ERA to raise commercial complex at the same site has been shelved by him and decision in this regard was taken in a high level meeting chaired by him few days back.
He said CEO, ERA has been instructed to raise a modern underground parking lot and only first floor on the surface.
He said there is no any intention to benefit business houses or to take care of some vested interests in the proposed venture as alleged by some persons. He said that Government’s sole objective is to provide better parking facility to the people in Gandhi Nagar.
