NEW DELHI, Aug 14: Government today said it periodically reviews cadre strength of IAS ad IPS in all states as per their requirement and at present there is no demand from any state for sanctioning new posts.
“The cadre strength of the All India Services particularly IAS and IPS of every state is normally reviewed in every cadre review as per the justifications or requirements projected by the concerned state Government….
“At present there are no demands from the state governments,” Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions V Narayanasamy told Lok Sabha in a written reply.
He said that any proposal of the state governments are considered by the central government as per the rules.
“The Central Government shall, (ordinarily) at the interval of every (five) years, re-examine the strength and composition of each such cadre in consultation with the state government or the state governments concerned,” the rule says.
The review of the IAS cadre of Assam-Meghalaya, Bihar, Maharashtra, Odisha and Tamil Nadu is due this year, Narayanasamy said.
The Minister said that the Centre has sanctioned additional posts in some of the states for IAS and IPS officers.
There are 204 senior duty posts in Andhra Pradesh after review as against 188 it had before review. Similarly, Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh respectively have 162 and 321 such posts respectively after review. Before the review, they had 142 and 290 such posts.
There are 89 senior duty posts for IPS officers after the review in Kerala as against its earlier sanctioned strength of 78. Nagaland now has 39 senior duty posts for IPS officers as against 33 before review, he said.
According to government figures, out of the total sanctioned strength of 6,217 posts for IAS officers, as many as 4,737 are filled. The IPS has sanctioned strength of 4,730 posts, of which 3,637 are filled. (PTI)
