JAMMU, Feb 27: Seeking inclusion of moral and value-based education in the academic curriculum, Vichar Kranti Manch International (VKMI) today submitted a memorandum to Shantmanu, Additional Chief Secretary, Higher and School Education Department.
The memorandum was submitted during a special interaction programme, organized by Global Peace Organization, wherein Shantmanu was the chief guest.
The event was attended by retired bureaucrats, senior officers, academicians, civil society members, representatives from various social and educational organizations. I D Soni, Chief Advisor VKMI; VKMI president Dr Shreyansh Kumar Jain; Harminder Kour, Secretary, J&K Academy of Art Culture and Languages; Prof Seema Rohmetra, Director of the Law School, Jammu University, noted journalist Sohail Kazmi were among those present there.
During the event, Altaf Hussain, Advocate and Chairman of the Global Peace Organization, presented a roadmap to institutionalize moral education as a compulsory subject in schools, colleges and universities.
The proposal also included; establishment of a Directorate of Moral Education, creation of a dedicated PhD unit for research on moral and ethical education, setting up of a university exclusively focussed on moral and ethical education.
In his address, Shantmanu assured that he would make his best efforts to incorporate moral education as a subject in the curriculum. He also unveiled `Golden Principles of Life’.
Prof Seema Rohmetra stressed that a comprehensive assessment of human personality must take into account not only Intelligent Quotient (IQ) but also Social Quotient (SQ) and Emotional Quotient (EQ).
She also highlighted the vital role of parents and teachers in imparting values-based and moral education, which is essential for fostering well-rounded individuals.
The event proceeding were conducted by Gohar Hafeez Fani, President of Global Peace Organization.
Balwinder Singh, Sukesh C Khajuria, Prof Muneer Alam, Khalid Hussain, Prof M K Qaqae, Prof Vivak Arya, Prof Nitin Sharma, Advocate Yasin Janjua, VKMI team, comprising Ashok Gupta, K S Samyal, C M Sharma, Anju Bansal, Abhinandan Jain and others were present on the occasion.
