Govt urged to name Kunjwani crossing as Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Chowk

JAMMU, Mar 2: A meeting of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Chowk Coordination Committee, was held here today under the presidium of Comrade Sukhdev Singh, Convener of the Committee and Harnam Singh Manhas, President All India Manhas Mahasabha, for asking the Government to name the Kunjwani Crossing Chowk as Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Chowk and also for installing the Statue of Amar Shaheed Baba Banda Singh Bahadur.
Comrade Sukhdev Singh said that Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Chowk Coordination Committee and All India Manhas Baradari have already requested the Government for granting the approval for naming the Kunjwani Chowk in the name of great warrior, son of the soil Baba Banda Singh Bahadur and for installation of statue but no decision has been taken as yet. “Yesterday two Chowks have been renamed and our long pending genuine request has not been considered,” he added.
The meet reminded that the former Chief Minister had agreed in principle for installing the statue of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur at the chowk. Moreover, Kavinder Gupta, ex-Deputy Chief Minister had also announced several times in this regard. Further, Dr Jitendra Singh, Union Minister for State and Minister in PMO and BJP national secretary R P Singh had also supported this demand and assured that they would definitely take up the issue with the Government but no concrete step has been taken in this regard so far, said the participants.
Harnam Singh Manhas, President All India Manhas Mahasabha, said that they had already sent the communications to the Government to install statue of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur at the already decided place without further delay as the matter had already been taken up by both the organizations and communities with the Secretary to Government Housing and Urban Development Department J&K and Jammu Municipal Corporation. The presidium appealed the Lt Governor J&K to personally intervene in the matter and issue orders accordingly.
The meet announced to associate more religious personalities, NGOs and others for the cause and warned an agitation if the demand is not conceded.
Jagjot Singh Raina, senior leader, Indermindertar Singh, Vijay Singh, Comrade Pritam Singh, Jagjit Singh, Shiv Rattan Singh, Jagmeet Singh Bali, Jagbir Singh and other prominent attended the meeting.
