JAMMU, Aug 12: Making a scathing attack on Opposition parties in the State, which, he said, are in great desperation after losing power, Union Minister of State in PMO with independent charge of North Eastern States, Dr Jitendra Singh today said that Government will not be distracted by their (Opposition’s) provocations.
Talking to media persons soon after his arrival from Union Capital here, Dr Jitendra Singh said: “Opposition wants that the State coalition of PDP and BJP should crumble but this will not happen and instead the coalition should concentrate on good governance and in solving the problems of water and power especially in summer zone areas”.
Lambasting both opposition parties National Conference (NC) and Congress, he said they deliberately try to instigate the people of the State on the name of instability but “I tell them be assured that their plan will never succeed and they have to wait for elections as we will not allow them to form Government before poll”.

Without naming any body, he said “Governments don’t fall with twitter politics as we have the mandate of people and will stick to Agenda of Alliance (AoA) the main focus of which is good governance”. On opposition’s statement that they will take up the issue to people, he said “in democracy every one has right to go to people but we have the mandate and the coalition is not going to oblige them”, he added.
The Union Minister said some three-four politicians in the State who are out of power are doing this all to create a confusion among the masses but they will never succeed in their designs. “Two political parties PDP and BJP were given mandate to form the alliance by the people and by saying that BJP is distracting from its agenda you are insulting the peoples mandate”, he said in response to a question.
Replying to another question, that Opposition parties are insisting through twitter to disclose what transpired between him (PM) and Chief Minister during their meeting yesterday, Dr Jitendra Singh said that it is not for anybody’s tweet to decide what PM has spoken to CM.
In response to another question that Pakistan has intensified firing along borders and was targeting civilian areas repeatedly, Dr Jitendra Singh said the way our armed forces are giving the befitting reply this time to Pakistan has never been witnessed earlier. “Our forces are taking the result oriented action this time and its heat is also being felt across the border”, he added.
He said within Kashmir also a decisive action is being taken against the terrorists and this fight against the terrorism is entering a decisive phase as “our forces are working more professionally and with more dedication.”
On terrorists threat through posters to people of Kashmir especially the students warning them that they will face serious consequences if they participate in Independence Day celebrations this year, Dr Jitendra Singh said this is not any thing new to them as such warnings and threats were also being issued earlier. He made it clear that Government is very well prepared to deal with any situation.
“This year’s Independence Day function is more significant as we are celebrating 75 years of Quit India Movement and 70 years of Independence”, he said. There are no takers for terrorists, threats and warnings in Kashmir valley as the people especially the youth are fed up with them and they want to be the part of national mainstream and take full advantage of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s development agenda of making new India. “So the more threats they (terrorists’) will give the more they will be exposed, before the masses of Kashmir”, he added.
In response to another question that NC president and former Chief Minister, Dr Farooq Abdullah has alleged that attempts are being made to revoke Article 35A, Dr Jitendra Singh said the meeting between Prime Minister and Chief Minister is appropriate reply to it. “The issue is before the Court of law and let us wait for the Court verdict”, he added.
Dr Jitendra Singh said “BJP has not changed its stand on the core issues as we have true faith and belief in nationalism and patriotism but to perform the coalition dharma we have to stick to by Agenda of Alliance”.
On opposition from certain circles to recitation of Vande Matram, Dr Jitendra Singh said that Vande Matram is symbol of India’s ethos and it is not linked to any religion. “It was a marching song for freedom fighters which emerged as unifying force among them and has come over 150 years before.
On Doklam issue, Dr Jitendra Singh said that External Affairs Ministry has made its position clear. On China’s threat that they will evict Indian forces, the Union Minister said “it is not important what China is doing but the important is that what we are doing”.
Terming Shahpur Kandi project a game changer, Dr Jitendra Singh who took up this issue before the Union Government and with Prime Minister complimented Narendra Modi for his role in getting the agreement signed by the two riparian States of Punjab and J&K.
He said this project was to be constructed between the two States and there were some reservations on part of J&K regarding compensation.
“The issue of water sharing came last year and we brought it in the notice of Prime Minister and informed him that even the water which belongs to India as per Indus Water Treaty flows to Pakistan”. The PMO took initiative and organized the meeting of Chief Secretaries of the two States and a new agreement was made. This agreement was approved by both the Governments on 10th of this month, he added.
Dr Jitendra Singh said with implementation of this agreement Kathua will no more be called a Kandi as with the construction of Shahpur Kandi and Ujh projects the economy of the area will get boost as besides irrigating thousands kanals of land and generating hundreds mega watts of power, thousands of youth will get employment and also industry in the area will get a tremendous boost. The people will get 24 hour electricity and uninterrupted water supply, he added.
