Govt’s trade policies helped India to touch export of US$ 770 Bn: Khajuria

JAMMU, Apr 15: The Government of India’s trade centric policies and Prime Minister, Narendra Modi’s personal attention resulted in country’s tremendous growth of over US$ 770 in exports despite global headwinds, said Romesh Khajuria, Chairman of the Wool & Woollens Export Promotion Council (WWEPC), Ministry of Textile, Government of India.
Reacting to annual foreign trade data released by the Government, Khajuria said that overall exports (Goods and Services) of over USD 770 billion with a growth of about 14% has been registered amidst the global headwinds to show the resilience of the Indian exports.
He added that the milestone achievement of USD 447.47 billion in goods exports has been mainly on account of phenomenal growth in exports of electronic goods, petroleum coupled with growth in agro and processed food, marine products, leather goods, apparel, drugs and pharmaceuticals and organic and inorganic chemicals. He added that roughly 40% of the incremental GDP in 2022-23 was contributed by exports.
Khajuria further added that Indian manufacturers have come a long way from small beginnings as a cottage industry and now able to meet international standards through constant innovations in techniques.
“India exports multiple woollen products including wool top, yarn, fabric. We recorded USD 620 Million exports of woollen products during 2021-22 (excluding woollen carpets) and registered growth of 24% over the last year.
He said our total export of woollen products was US$ 1.18 Billion including woollen carpets, flooring, worsted yarns and suiting and overall growth was 25% and maintained that during the current year, India registered 29% till February 2023. India exports wool and woollen blended products to more than 150 countries around the world.
He maintained that the Government has taken various steps for the development of the woollen industry and WWEPC is an international face of Indian Woollen Textiles which is helping Indian exporters in having a presence in the international arena.
The WWEPC is also confident of achieving the exports target of USD 2 Trillion by 2030.
Khajuria further hoped that the country is making huge progress in various areas under the visionary and able leadership of Prime Minister, Narendra Modi ranging from social sectors to economy, particularly exports.
