Govt’s wrong policies responsible for situation in Valley: Mehbooba

SAMBA, Mar 3: Reiterating that the ‘healing touch’ policy of her party was the only way to address wishes and aspirations of all sections of the society, president of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Mehbooba Mufti said that it was result of ignoring view point of PDP on Afzal Guru that Kashmir was again on boil.
She reminded that her party had asked present regime of Jammu and Kashmir to take a lesson from Tamil Nadu and Punjab Governments and aggressively pursue the case of the clemency for Afzal Guru but no concrete step was taken by the Government.
Addressing a public meeting at Purmandal today, Ms Mufti said that instead of accommodating view point of PDP on this sensitive issue, unfortunately the present Chief Minister has thrown caution to the wind. And it is result of such casual approach of Chief Minister, on this issue, that the whole process of peace and reconciliation has received a setback. She said that it was outcome of the wrong policies of the present regime that situation again deteriorating in the State in general and Kashmir valley in particular
“PDP, through its assiduous efforts, had restored peace and tranquillity in Jammu and Kashmir but the present regime has derailed the process of peace by its wrong decisions”, she observed and added that peace was imperative for economic growth of any region.
She further said that every region of the State had taken dividends of the peace and reconciliatory policies of the PDP taking a dig at the Government, while dubbing the coalition regime as total failure on all fronts, she highlighted achievements of the Government headed by Mufti Mohammad Sayeed. She said that people of the State were comparing three years performance of PDP led Government with decades long mis-governance of successive National Conference regimes.
For the last more than four years functioning of this dispensation is appearing only on papers and not even a single promise has been so far implemented on the ground level . PDP president said and reminded the gathering that during campaign of the last Assembly elections, National Conference had made a number of promises with the people but all remained unaddressed.
While responding to the demands being raised by the local PDP leader said that her party would pursue Purmandal’s case for being declared backward. She also said that the place having great spiritual value should be brought on tourism map with proper tourism infrastructure which would generate employment for the locals. Keeping in view the importance of this area, it should be given the status of a block office . She also assured the people that her party would effectively take up the issue of upgradation of roads, scarcity of potable water in this Kandi belt.
T S Bajwa, Shanti Devi, Ved Mahajan, Hussain Ali Bafa, Thakur Suram Singh, Pawandev Singh, Anita Devi, Jarnail Singh, Abhijeet Jasrotia, Somnath Dogra and Rashpal Singh Bittu were also attend the meeting.
In the meeting local Panchayat member Anil Goswami alongwith has supporters joined PDP.
