MUMBAI: Actor Riteish Deshmukh says Salman Khan agreed to be a part of the biopic on Chhatrapati Shivaji without knowing which part he will play, something which was very “gracious” of the superstar.
Earlier this year, the 50-year-old “Dabangg” actor confirmed he will be a part of the Marathi biopic, which stars Riteish in the titular role.
“It was extremely gracious of him (Salman) to have offered to be a part of this without knowing exactly what part he is going to play. I respect that faith he has in me and our friendship,” Riteish said in an interview.
Salman, who did a cameo in the “Housefull 3” star’s Marathi film “Lai Bhaari”, had said his role in the upcoming biopic won’t be confined to a brief appearance.
Quizzed about this, Riteish said currently the writing process is on and it would be too premature to talk about that. He added that Salman is quite fluent in Marathi and the duo talk in that language.
The 37-year-old actor, however, said bringing the life and times of the Maratha warrior will be a daunting task and he considers it big responsibility.
“It’s a huge responsibility to make a film on that personality. Because it is not only a story but there are lots of emotions attached to that personality and the life. It’s not that you’re talking about a forgotten hero.
“Today this hero is as alive as anyone else. Hence, there is a lot of responsibility. We are doing our full research, trying to figure out what all are we going to say. We want to make a film that will help you understand the personality more.”
The biopic will be helmed by National Award winning director Ravi Jadhav. (AGENCIES)
