LEH, June 5: Ladakh Buddhist Association (LBA) accorded grand reception to Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang Rinpochey, the 37th throne holder of the Drikung Kagyu Lineage on his arrival here this morning.
Drukpa Thuksay Rinpochey, Tokdan Rinpochey, Stakna Rinpochey, Tsamtrul Rinpochey, LBA President Tsewang Thinless, Youth President Rinchen Namgyal, Women Wing President Tsewang Dolma, religious heads, LAHDC Executive Councilors and Councilors headed by CEC Dr Sonam Dawa, heads of various monasteries, monks, political leaders and prominent citizens were present at Kushok Bakula Rinpochey (KBR) Airport to receive the spiritual leader.
The cavalcade of spiritual leader passed from KBR to Chowkhang Vihara amid musical reception by monks of different monasteries followed by “Phoks Kalchor” from different parts of Ladakh. The school children and general devotees stood across the road to get a glimpse of His Holiness.
At Chowkhang Vihara, LBA executive members headed by President Tsewang Thinless offered Mandala to the Drikung Kyabgon to welcome him in Ladakh.
Drikung Kyabgon also addressed the gathering to highlight the challenging issue of global warming. He informed that the World Environment Day celebration started in 1973 to spread awareness among masses about the fragile ecosystem for judicious usage of natural resources to reduce the global warming.
He added that due to man-made destruction in the ecosystem, number of natural disasters occur and we must be careful towards our fragile environment to protect from natural disaster. “People in the Himalayan region should be more concerned about shrinking glaciers on which number of Asian countries depends”, he said and laid stress on organic farming to save the glaciers.
Appreciating Ama Tsogspa for environmental initiatives, he emphasized on plantation drive and organic farming.
Earlier, LBA President Tsewang Thinless expressed his gratitude to His Holiness for blessing the people of Ladakh and urged the devotees to follow his teaching to bring changes in their day to day life.
Later, the spiritual leader left for his residence at Phyang Gompa where he will reside during his stay in Ladakh. He is also scheduled to hold number of sermons at Nobra Khungroo, Disket, Shachukul and Jevetsal Leh.
