Sir,
President Droupadi Murmu’s call for “Green Engineering” in her recent address to the Military Engineer Services (MES) officers deserves appreciation. Her emphasis on environmentally conscious and sustainable construction is a timely and crucial message. With India’s growing population and finite resources, there is an urgent need to transform the real estate sector to mitigate the impacts of climate change.
Green construction, with its focus on reducing carbon footprints and preserving resources, is a key solution. Green buildings accredited by the Indian Green Building Council save significant amounts of water and energy while also reducing construction costs and increasing property values. It is imperative to incorporate eco-sustainable design principles throughout a building’s lifecycle, from planning to demolition.
President Murmu’s call aligns with the Government’s efforts to reduce carbon emissions and harness sustainable energy sources. I also appreciate the military’s commitment to green engineering, which can positively influence our environment, especially in challenging terrains. We must all embrace these principles in our personal and collective efforts to secure a sustainable and healthier future for India.
