KATHUA, Feb 5: Emphasising on giving utmost attention to the conservation of ecosystem, Col (retd) Mahan Singh, Chairman DDC Kathua said that the green gold has an important role in maintaining fine balance of the ecosystem and increased green cover would go a long way in preserving the ecological balance on the planet.
He was speaking during the Van Mela organized under the aegis of Forest Division, Basohli at Marta Nagrota. During the event, demonstrations and awareness on growing of Mushroom, beekeeping, water and soil conservation, functioning of Forest Rights Committees and role of Farm Produce Organization were discussed. Mushroom bags, portable rechargeable solar lights, Kissan tool kits, sewing machines were distributed to more than 100 beneficiaries on the occasion.
Col Mahan Singh, who was the chief guest on the occasion, applauded the support and cooperation of the public of district Kathua to safeguard forest resources popularly known as “Green Gold” in the region. He asserted that the forests are indispensable for human life on the earth planet which adds beauty of mother earth and provides food and oxygen to the human being.
Col Mahan appreciated the initiative of international community and Modi led Central Government for promoting clear energy and other measures to save mother earth from green gasses emission and global warming.
Later, the DDC Chairman launched a plantation drive in Vidhya Bharti School Compound at Nagrota Pretha. He asserted the drive would not stop at planting new trees only but focus would be laid to ensure proper care and attention of the planted sapling adding that special regular watering dose of organic manure provision of tree guards avoiding plants from construction waste and well-drained deep sandy soil would help plants to grow in a healthy manner.
Prominent among those who were present on the occasion include Sushma Jamwal, BDC Chairperson, Ashwani Mittal, DFO Basohli, Sarpanch Hutt, Sarpanch Ghagrore, Sarpanch Pretha, Sarpanch Plahi, Capt (retdd) Des Raj, Nek Ram, Kishori Lal and Sham Singh.
