KISHTWAR, Jan 22: In a sensational militant attack indicating further revival of militancy in Kishtwar, unidentified militant(s) lobbed a grenade targeting Gypsy of Special Operations Group (SOG) at Dadpeth under the jurisdiction of Chatroo police station, about 18 kilometers from here, this afternoon but failed to cause any casualties or damage.
The site of grenade attack was same where the militants had in 2002 targeted the convoy of Choudhary Lal Singh in which DySP Mushtaq Ahmed and three other police personnel were martyred.
Reports said the militants, whose exact number couldn’t be ascertained immediately, lobbed grenade on the SOG Gypsy in which an Inspector was also travelling from behind the bushes at Dadpeth. The grenade missed the target and exploded harmlessly.
The militant (s) managed to escape from the spot by the time the SOG personnel could take positions.
Immediately after the terror attack, police, SOG-and para-military personnel launched a search operation to track down the militants. Searches continued till late tonight but the militants remained elusive.
There have been reports that militants were trying to further revive militancy in Kishtwar district and number of active militants has also gone up slightly.
