JAMMU, Dec 3: Police today averted a major tragedy when it detected and defused live hand grenade on backside of the offices of the DIG, SSP and Deputy Commissioner at Gujjar Mandi in Rajouri.
SSP Rajouri Chandan Kohli told the Excelsior that cops spotted a hand grenade lying at Gujjar Mandi around 1 pm today and immediately sealed entire complex housing offices of the DIG Rajouri-Poonch Range, SSP and Deputy Commissioner.
The grenade was defused.
“It was a live hand grenade and a major tragedy has been averted with timely detection of the explosive device,” the SSP Rajouri said, adding that searches have been launched at different places to nab the Over Ground Workers of the militants responsible for keeping the grenade at the sensitive place.
However, no arrests have been made so far but police was working on certain clues.
Meanwhile, security has been further beefed up in entire Rajouri district amidst voting for the District Development Council elections. Tomorrow, there is polling for the third phase.
