JAMMU, Dec 21: In a remarkable feat of surgical precision and teamwork, All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Vijaypur in Jammu successfully performed its first case of bilateral equinocavus deformity correction on a pediatric patient.
The surgery, a significant achievement in the field of Rehabilitation medicine was carried out by a dedicated multidisciplinary team under the visionary leadership of Prof (Dr) Shakti Kumar Gupta, Executive Director and CEO of AIIMS Jammu.
The young patient, who had been diagnosed operated case of meningomyelocele with severe bilateral equinocavus deformity coupled with fixed flexion deformities left knee, faced significant challenges in mobility and quality of life. This condition, characterized by an abnormally high arch of the foot and persistent downward-pointing toes, had left the child struggling with standing, and limited function.
