Growing India needs better leaders: Gen Singh

JAMMU, July 31: Governor of Arunachal Pradesh and former chief of the Army staff, General JJ Singh today delivered HL Gupta Memorial Lecture at Model Institute of Education and Research on “Leadership for Modern India”.
On the occasion, Lieutenant General KT Parnaik, General Officer Commanding in Chief, HQ Northern Command and Prof MPS Ishar, Vice Chancellor University of Jammu were the guests of honour. Besides, Anupama Singh, first lady of Arunachal Pradesh, Dr Arun Gupta, Chairman MIER group of Institutions and Dr Renu Gupta, Director MIER, former Army officers, high officials of the Government, members of the academia and civil society, management, faculty and students of MIER were also present.
Dr Arun K Gupta, Chairman MIER presented the welcome address and introduced General Singh as a third generation soldier who rose to become the 22nd Chief of the Indian Army and after retiring from the services, became the Governor of the sensitive State of Arunachal Pradesh.
While delivering the lecture General Singh said that for our nation to progress, right kind of leaders are required at different levels who understand the requirements of a growing country like India and have the capability to take decisions for the benefit of their country men. He also exemplified the various traits a Leader should possess in order to lead from the front.
Lt General KT Parnaik and Prof MPS Isher also addressed the gathering.
Later, Lieutenant General KT Parnaik, GOC-in-C of Northern Command and Captain Joginder Singh father of Late Navdeep Singh, Ashok Chakra, Maratha Light Infantry released autobiography of General JJ Singh “A Soldier’s General”.
Sqn Ldr Rakesh Punia, ADC to the Governor gave an introduction to the book. Two students of Model Academy, Sheena Bhat and Ajmal Farooq read some interesting excerpts from the book. A small documentary highlighting the life and achievements of General Singh was also shown to the audience.
General JJ Singh commented upon his autobiographical venture after the release of the book and acquainted the audience about the purpose behind writing this book.
At the end, Dr Adit Gupta, Joint Director MIER presented vote of thanks.
