Growth of under developed, backward areas Govt’s priority: Slathia

Rajouri gets Rs 114.70 cr annual plan

RAJOURI, June 30 : District Development Board, Rajouri, which met here today under the chairmanship of Minister for Industries and Commerce, Surjit Singh Slathia, approved Rs 114.70 crore annual plan for Rajouri district for the current fiscal 2012-13.
Minister of State for Power, CA&PD, Shabir Ahmed Khan, Vice Chairman Advisory Board for Development of Kissan, Thakur Rashpal Singh, Vice Chairman Advisory Board for Development of Pahari Speaking People, Sayed Mushtaq Ahmed Bukhari, Vice Chairman Advisory Board for Development of OBCs, Kuldeep Verma, MLA Nowshera Radhey Sham Sharma, MLA Darhal Ch. Zulfikar Ali, MLC Ravinder Sharma, District Development Commissioner, Saugat Biswas besides heads of various departments and district officers were present in the meeting.
The DDC gave a detailed resume of physical and financial achievements registered upto ending March 2012 in the district besides presenting proposed approval for 2012-13.
Addressing the meeting, lathia called upon the officers to concentrate on growth of under developed and backward areas of the district which is one of the main agenda of Omar-led Government. He asked them to make extra efforts to accomplish the targets with optimum utilization of funds.
He said Government is committed to develop hilly and far-off areas of the district with better basic amenities, adding that in this regard massive development activities have been launched to ensure effective development like road connectivity, safe drinking water, power, education, health besides better lanes and drains in every corner of the district. The Minister directed the officers to ensure timely completion of various road projects taken up under PMGSY, besides settlement of all pending land compensation cases acquired under the programme.
Listing various roads and other projects taken up in the area, Slathia said like elsewhere in the State, massive road connectivity programmes have been launched with a view to accelerate economic activities in hilly areas like Rajouri district.
The Minister stressed upon the need for bringing in more accountability and transparency in optimum utilization of funds with timely completion of ongoing projects within stipulated time frame. He said that coalition Govt. is fully aware of the people’s problems living in hilly and remote areas of the district and it is making all out efforts to mitigate them in a phased manner on priority basis.
The Minister said that suggestions from the elected local representative and Sarpanchs / Panchs and people in large would prove of great help to improve and strengthen the key sectors in the district. He said effective implementation of developmental schemes is not possible without the active participation of Panchayati Raj Institutions and added that involvement of Sarpanchs and Panchs must be ensured in the planning and implementation of infrastructure development schemes.
