GRP arrests burglar; recovers stolen gold ornaments worth lakhs, cash

JAMMU, July 3: Government Railway Police (GRP) Jammu claimed today that they have arrested a burglar and recovered from his possession stolen gold ornaments worth Rs 13 lakh and Rs 30000 cash.
According to a police spokesperson, on May 15, 2023, a woman passenger approached Police Station GRP Jammu and told the police officials that while she was travelling in Udhampur Special Express, she found her golden ornaments missing when she reached at Railway Station Jammu.
Quoting the complainant, the police spokesperson said that the woman further told the police officials that she doubted the involvement of some passengers she travelled with, in the theft, who boarded the train from Bari Brahamana.
On the request of the complainant, an FIR was registered at Police Station GRP Jammu and on the directions of SSP Railways Jammu, Mohan Lal Kaith, a SIT was constituted under the overall supervision of Albeena Malik, SDPO Railways Jammu, said the spokesperson.
During investigation, he said, all the suspects were traced from Haryana.
With the hectic efforts of Inspector Niaz Ahmed, SHO Police Station GRP Jammu, and Haryana Police, the exact whereabouts of the suspected thieves were traced in Ambala, Haryana and accordingly a GRP Jammu team headed by Inspector Madan Lal Sharma was deputed to Ambala City to arrest the accused, said the police spokesperson.
On June 19, he said, one accused was arrested from Ambala, who was brought to Jammu and on his disclosure, all the stolen gold ornaments worth Rs 13 lakh and Rs 30000 cash was recovered.
Meanwhile, further investigation is underway to arrest the other accused involved in the burglary.
