GSAT19 on course to its space home: ISRO

BENGALURU, June 8: The indigenously launched 3.16 tonne communication satellite GSAT 19 was on its way to its space home with the spacecraft controllers carrying out two orbit raising operation during the last two days.
ISRO announced today that the Satellite was currently orbiting the earth once in 13 hours 58 minutes and after the second orbit raising operations carried out yesterday the satellite was in an orbital plane of 35,840 km (apogee) and 10,287 km (perigee). The satellite was in an inclination of 7.02 deg.
ISRO said that the Liquid Apogee Motor engine was fired for 5538 seconds yesterday afternoon.  The first orbit raising operation of GSAT-19 Satellite has been successfully carried out by LAM Engine firing for 116 sec from 1403 hrs on June 6.
GSAT-19 satellite with a lift-off mass of 3136 kg was successfully hurled into geostationary transfer orbit by the first developmental flight of GSLV-MkIII launcher of ISRO.
The next generation launcher weighed 640 tonnes at lift off and the two stage vehicle was 43.43 m high. GSAT-19 carries Ka/Ku-band high throughput communication transponders. Besides, it carries a Geostationary Radiation Spectrometer (GRASP) payload to monitor and study the nature of charged particles and the influence of space radiation on satellites and their electronic components.
GSAT-19 also features certain advanced spacecraft technologies including miniaturised heat pipe, fiber optic gyro, Micro Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS) accelerometer, Ku-band TTC transponder, as well an indigenous Lithium-ion Battery.  (UNI)
