GST Bills likely to be introduced in LS in first week of Dec

NEW DELHI, Nov 23: The Government is mulling to bring the three GST-related Bills in the first week of December in the Lok Sabha, where it is expected that they will have a smooth passage.
It is understood that these Bills might be brought as Money Bills and not as Finance Bills, so that they cannot be held up by Rajya Sabha as the Upper House has to return the Money Bill to the Lower House any way.
According to Finance Ministry sources, for the legal drafting of these Bills, there will be a meeting of inter-state officers on November 25, where the final draft will be prepared.
Sources said after the draft is prepared, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley may call a meeting of the Finance Ministers of all States next week to get the draft approved.
The Government hopes that there will be a smooth passage of the Bills as the whole process was based on consensus.
