Srinagar, Dec 7: The GST Enforcement Team of South Kashmir announced today that penalties amounting to Rs 2.62 crore have been imposed on tax violators during the ongoing financial year 2024-2025.
According to officials, tax impositions have increased by 26% compared to the corresponding period of the previous financial year.
A significant growth of 46%, 18%, and 25% was recorded in the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd quarters, respectively, compared to the previous financial year.
Furthermore, the months of April, July and October 2024 saw remarkable growth of 182%, 113% and 28%, respectively.
The enforcement drives, conducted under the supervision of Commissioner of State Taxes, P.K. Bhat was spearheaded by Deputy Commissioner of State Taxes Enforcement South Kashmir, Waseem Raja.
The Deputy Commissioner stated that future drives against tax violations would be intensified to strengthen deterrence.
It was revealed that high-risk commodities, including metal scrap, cement, marble, plywood, timber, TMT bars, hardware items, motor parts, electrical goods, and readymade garments, were the primary focus during these drives.
Notably, the penalties were levied on traders transporting goods in violation of the GST Act and Rules.
Round-the-clock enforcement activities were conducted across the four districts of South Kashmir, during which over two lakh e-way bills were verified. This marks a 45% increase in verifications compared to the same period of the previous financial year (April to November 2023-2024).
