JAMMU, Nov 22: The J&K Gujjar United Front (GUF) is organizing State level one day convention of Gujjars & Bakerwals near Narwal on Bye Pass road here on November 25.
Addressing a press conference here today, Shah Mohd Choudhary, president of the Front said that all the Ministers, legislators and other important public functionaries/ representatives belonging to the community, irrespective of their party affiliation are participating in the programme. The convention is being held in the backdrop of a systematic exit of Gujjars from political and administrative priorities in Jammu and Kashmir which is a cause of deep concern in the community, he said.
Mr Choudhary claimed that Gujjars and Bakerwals are third largest identity and constitute more than 20 percent of the total population of Jammu and Kashmir, but still their interests and concerns are no more in the priority list of the Government. The political parties seem to have not abandoned welfare of Gujjars as an election time commitment but also compromised with the interests of the community.
The Gujjar leader said that in the backdrop of this alarming situation, the Gujjar United Front has invested months of efforts to bring all prominent Gujjars leading cutting across the party affiliations to sit together and chart out a future course of action. On the request of GUF, all the ministers and legislators from the community besides other sitting at the top positions, have agreed to attend this convention on Sunday, Mr Choudhary maintained.
