VADODARA, Oct 17: Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel has said the state government aims to increase share of GSDP from the manufacturing sector to 32 per cent by 2017.
“Gujarat maintains a leadership position in manufacturing sector. It contributes 28.2 per cent of its Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP). We aim at 32 per cent share of GSDP from the manufacturing sector by 2017,” Patel told PTI.
She was speaking on the sidelines of inauguration of US healthcare company Abbott’s Rs 450 crore greenfield nutrition manufacturing plant at Jhagadiya near here yesterday.
“Today Gujarat accounts for more than 7.5 per cent of India’s GDP, 18 per cent of the country’s fixed capital and 25 per cent of exports. Gujarat is thus playing a big role in the Indian growth story,” she said.
“We envisage a bigger role for Gujarat as Indian economy grows under the leadership of our Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” she said.
Gujarat, the growth engine of India, is now set to gain further momentum with the fast implementation of Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) under the new Union government, the ‘Make in India’ movement and the focus on skill development, the chief minister said.
Gujarat has witnessed a double digit economic growth in last 13 years, she pointed out.
“The state has taken up skill development in a big way. We have increased allocation on skill development from Rs 480 crore to Rs 1,151 crore in the past two years,” she said.
“Through ITIs on PPP mode, we create a win-win situation, the locals get training and employment and the industry gets the right kind of human resource,” she said.
The Centre is now setting up a separate department for skill development. I am sure this will give a major boost to our efforts in Gujarat, Patel said.
She also said that Abbott’s rich and long experience can help the state in working out awareness programmes on nutrition.
Patel also said the biennial Gujarat Global Investors Summit will be held from January 11 to 13, 2015, in Gandhinagar for which over 1,000 industrialists, diplomats and captains of Indian Industry have been invited. (PTI)
