POONCH, Aug 1: Gujjar and Bakarwal community members staged a strong protest against the proposed inclusion of Pahari community in ST status for which bill has been introduced by Government in Lok Sabha.
Information reveals that the protest against inclusion of Pahari’s in ST has been done in different parts of UT from many days and a protest was today staged in Poonch where slogans were raised against this decision of the Government.
Protestors from Poonch and Rajouri districts marched from a route of Sher e Kashmir bridge and enters Krishan Chander Park where it was later concluded after speech of some youth activists there. Click here to watch video
Guftar Choudhary, Talib Choudhary and other protestors said that including Pahari’s in Schedule Tribe status is injustice being done with Gujjars-Bakarwals and Government must take the bill back, otherwise, such protests shall be held throughout the country.
Meanwhile, a video of protest with anti- national slogans was circulated on social media but the Senior Superintendent of Police Poonch, Vinay Sharma advised not to circulate any unverified vedio.
“We are analysing video through forensic experts as to whether it is real or fake, legal action shall follow accordingly. So far, we could see tricolours raised high throughout the protest demonstration” he added.
