Gujjar-Bakerwals seek CM’s intervention

JAMMU, Oct 19: Gujjar and Bakkerwal State president, Choudhary Nazakat Khatana along with 200 Gujjar-Bakerwals met Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti at her official residence, here today and sought her help in saving the homes of about 5000- 10,000 people residing in village Rakh Protiya in Vijaypur, where the AIIMS Jammu is to be constructed.
Choudhary Khatana told the CM that the police on the instructions of Forest Minister, Choudhary Lal Singh, are torturing these families to vacate their residence for the construction of AIIMS in village Vijaypur Rakh Protiya where these 650 Gujjar communities are residing for last 40 years.
He appealed the CM to do needful without any delay for saving about 650 houses of these nomadic people. Besides, many problems of the nomadic Gujjar people of Jammu Division were discussed in the meeting. A charter of memorandum comprising their grievances was also submitted by the Gujjar-Bakkerwals to the CM.
